Salaried taxpayers face confusion regarding the employer's NPS contribution as the 31 July deadline for AY 2026-27 approaches. Many employees wrongly believe this contribution is a standalone benefit. However, Section 17(1)(viii) of the Income-Tax Act, 1961 says this amount is part of salary, regardless of the Rs 7.50 lakh limit.
