Himadri Speciality Chemicals targets a more than two-fold increase in profit after tax to over ₹1,100 crore by FY28 from ₹555 crore in FY25, driven by investments in advanced materials, electric vehicle battery chemicals and a turnaround of its tyre business.
The company outlined a ₹2,000-crore capital expenditure programme that it expects to fund through internal accruals. The strategy focuses on expanding speciality chemicals, building an integrated battery materials business and improving the performance of Birla Tyres, said the company in a recent investor call with analysts.
"Himadri is evolving from a commodity chemical business to a specialty and advanced materials solution provider," said Anurag Choudhary, Chairman and Managing Director.
The company plans to invest ₹70 crore in a 200-tonne-per-annum carbon nanotube plant, targeting applications in batteries, aerospace and semiconductors. It will also invest ₹170 crore to convert existing super speciality carbon black capacity to produce 6,000 TPA for niche applications.
Himadri has commissioned a 200-TPA anode pilot plant, with samples being evaluated by global customers.
In lithium iron phosphate cathode materials, the company plans to begin production at an initial capacity of 2,000 TPA in Q3 FY27. This will be the first step towards a 40,000-TPA Phase-I capacity, involving an investment of ₹1,125 crore. The longer-term plan envisages capacity of 2 lakh TPA, subject to the development of market demand and the company's expansion plans.
The third component of the strategy is the turnaround of Birla Tyres. Himadri is modernising its infrastructure and shifting its product mix from truck and bus tyres towards higher-margin off-the-road tyres.
The company is also expanding its international operations. It recently incorporated a subsidiary in Dubai to support overseas expansion and logistics for its battery chemicals supply chain. Separately, it divested its stake in step-down subsidiary Sturdy Niketan through its subsidiary, Trancemarine and Confreight Logistics, as part of its efforts to focus on core operations.
Choudhary said the planned capital expenditure would be funded through internal cash flows, highlighting the company's intention to expand its advanced materials portfolio while maintaining financial discipline.
