ASK Investment Managers has signed definitive agreements to acquire SageOne Investment Managers, with the combined entity set to manage over ₹85,000 crore in assets.

ASK Investment Managers (ASK IM) announced on Wednesday that it has signed definitive agreements to acquire SageOne Investment Managers, an asset management firm operating across portfolio management services and alternative investment funds. The deal is estimated at around ₹2,000 crore (approximately $200 million), according to an industry executive, though neither company disclosed financial terms.

As part of the transaction, SageOne founder Samit Vartak will reinvest in ASK and take on the role of Chief Investment Officer (Equities) for the combined platform. Blackstone, which majority-owns ASK, will retain its controlling stake.

Combined assets to cross ₹850 billion

The combined entity will manage over ₹85,000 crore in assets. SageOne currently manages nearly ₹9,000 crore, while ASK's asset and wealth management group oversees assets exceeding ₹77,000 crore.

SageOne's flagship fund, the SageOne Core Portfolio, has delivered annualised returns of 25.3 per cent since April 2012, against 13.8 per cent for the BSE 500 TRI over the same period. Vartak brings 25 years of investment experience to the merged platform.

Acquisition expands equity capabilities

The acquisition gives ASK stronger equity investment capabilities and extends SageOne's reach into ASK's global distribution network spanning Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. The Rainmaker Group advised on the transaction, which remains subject to regulatory and investor approvals.
