Sidharatha Mishra has been appointed managing director and chief executive officer of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, succeeding Anup Bagchi, who is stepping down from the post to join HDFC Bank as its MD and CEO.

In a regulatory filing, ICICI Prudential Life said its board had approved Mishra's appointment as chief operating officer with effect from October 6. He will take charge as MD and CEO for a five-year term from October 14, subject to approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

Mishra has over 26 years of experience in banking and currently heads digital channels and partnerships, voice channel, customer service, NRI and IFIG businesses at ICICI Bank.

A science graduate with a postgraduate diploma in management specialising in finance from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Mishra joined ICICI Bank as a management trainee in 1998. He became a deputy branch manager a year later and subsequently headed a branch in Visakhapatnam.

He went on to hold regional and zonal retail banking roles across Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In 2018, he became retail business head for the East and Andhra Pradesh.

Mishra subsequently moved into digital banking and, since July 2024, has overseen digital channels, NRI business, IFIG, voice channel and customer service.

Meanwhile, Bagchi will resign as MD and CEO of ICICI Prudential Life, effective October 13. The board noted his resignation at its meeting on Thursday.
