Gadag Deputy Commissioner C.N. Sridhar directed officials on Thursday to ensure steady supplies of drinking water and fodder during the Rabi season. He asked them to prepare lists of villages facing water scarcity and expedite Jal Jeevan Mission works. Officials also reviewed crop surveys and land development for eligible beneficiaries.
Deputy Commissioner of Gadag C.N. Sridhar has directed officials to take precautionary measures to ensure that people and livestock do not face shortages of drinking water and fodder during the Rabi season.
Chairing a review meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority in Gadag on Thursday to assess the availability of drinking water and fodder in rural and urban areas, Mr. Sridhar asked officials to prepare and submit taluk-wise lists of villages facing water scarcity.
He directed officials to ensure adequate availability of fodder and instructed them to inform the Deputy Commissioner before releasing water from reservoirs.
Mr. Sridhar also asked officials to ensure adequate supplies of water and fodder and directed them to expedite works under the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure tap water reaches every household.
Reviewing water storage in tanks under the Zilla Panchayat and the groundwater situation, he called for judicious use of available water resources. He also instructed officials to regularly test the quality of water in the tanks.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress of horticulture programmes and VB-G RAM G works and asked officials to achieve the prescribed targets within the stipulated period.
Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary C.R. Mundaragi said works for rejuvenation of water sources and desilting of lakes were under way under VB-G RAM G.
The meeting was informed that the process of identifying and surveying land for providing house sites to eligible beneficiaries was under way in coordination with tahsildars and executive officers. Mr. Sridhar directed officials to examine reports on land availability and undertake necessary land development and levelling works.
Joint Director of Agriculture Chetana Patil said maize harvesting was nearing completion and farmers were being provided the necessary information and support. Though rainfall in September was below normal, rainfall in October had improved to about 90% of the expected level, she said.
She said 99% of the joint crop survey had been completed. Steps were being taken to complete mismatch cases and crop-loss assessment within the stipulated period so that eligible farmers could receive compensation. She also appealed to eligible farmers who had not completed e-KYC under the PM-KISAN scheme to do so immediately. Senior officials of various departments were present.
