Marvel released the VisionQuest trailer, bringing Paul Bettany’s White Vision back to the MCU. The story follows Vision as he searches for purpose while facing the return of James Spader’s Ultron. The series also introduces Thomas Shepherd and a mercenary named Paladin, who got hired to hunt down the synthezoid.
Marvel is bringing Paul Bettany's Vision back to the centre of the MCU with VisionQuest, the final chapter in the WandaVision trilogy that followed Agatha All Along. The latest trailer continues the mystery of the rebuilt White Vision, while also bringing back James Spader's Ultron and a few interesting characters. The story centres around Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious boy who may be Vision's reincarnated son. Meanwhile, Vision faces another threat in the form of Paladin, a mysterious mercenary hired to hunt him down, setting up a dangerous new chapter for the synthezoid. The new series comes as the main MCU gears up for the release of Avengers: Doomsday, following the smashing return of Endgame Encore in theatres recently.
VisionQuest follows the White Vision after the events of WandaVision. The new trailer dropped by Marvel takes us deeper into the plot. While he has recovered the memories of Vision, he no longer has the same sense of morality and identity. As he hides and searches for new purpose, Vision turns to the artificial intelligence personalities woven into his programming.
That puts him on the path of Ultron, the rogue AI who created Vision and who earlier tried to wipe out humanity in Avengers: Age of Ultron. James Spader returns to play Ultron, bringing the character back to the MCU in live-action for the first time in over 10 years. The trailer also hints that Vision may eventually have to work with his former creator, though he's still cautious about Ultron's plans.
Ruaridh Mollica's Thomas Shepherd is one of the biggest mysteries in the series. The young boy enters Vision's life under strange circumstances and might even be linked to him as his reincarnated son. Thomas is important because Wanda and Vision's kids had a big role in WandaVision. So, his arrival could put VisionQuest back into the events surrounding Wanda Maximoff and her family. We still don't know who Thomas is or how his existence fits into the larger mythology of the MCU.
Vision's got more than just Ultron to deal with. In the trailer, Paladin, a mysterious character played by Todd Stashwick, also appears. Paladin is a mercenary in the Marvel Comics universe whose allegiance depends on whoever pays him. His past is purposefully enigmatic, which makes him a different sort of menace than Vision's mechanical enemies.
Paladin is hired to find Vision, who is being hunted by a bounty in VisionQuest. The trailer shows the masked mercenary facing off against Vision with a large weapon, indicating that their fight will be a big part of the story.
Jocasta, a major player in the Marvel Universe who is closely associated with Ultron, will also appear in the series. Known as Ultron's bride, Jocasta adds another dimension to the show's exploration of artificial intelligence, consciousness, and identity.
VisionQuest is the third and final chapter in the WandaVision television trilogy. Agatha All Along took that story in a more supernatural direction, but the new series brings the focus back to Vision and his unresolved identity. The show stars Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Emily Hampshire and James D’Arcy.
