The trailer of Mike Flanagan’s upcoming horror film The Exorcist: Martyrs was unveiled by the makers on Saturday (October 10, 2026). Headlined by Scarlett Johansson, the film also stars Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo, Diane Lane, Sasha Calle and Jacobi Jupe in pivotal roles.

Scarlett plays Detective Julie Miller, who arrests a brutal serial killer, Father Sunday (John). He is ultimately executed, however, Julie is brought back to the troubles of her past almost thirteen years later when her name is found written in blood at a murder site. As Julie leads the investigation, she uncovers the mystery surrounding a bunch of serial killers, who are all connected to a deadly evil force beyond the realm of humans.

Flanagan, who wrote and directed the film, is taking the franchise in a different direction by combining supernatural horror with the structure of a serial-killer thriller. The filmmaker has cited The Exorcist III and William Peter Blatty’s novel Legion as influences, while describing the new film as a story with brand-new characters and its own plot.

The Exorcist: Martyrs is not a direct sequel to The Exorcist: Believer, which came out in 2023 and was directed by David Gordon Green.

The Exorcist: Martyrs will be released in theatres on March 12, 2027.
