The medical thriller Heart of a Killer got renewed for a second season after its hit debut on the Israeli platform Hot. Starring Niv Sultan, the show follows a surgeon facing moral dilemmas. Sipur CEO Emilio Schenker said, “We’re thrilled to bring this gripping story to new audiences around the world.”
“Heart of a Killer,” a hit medical thriller starring Niv Sultan (Apple TV’s “Tehran”) has been renewed for a second season, Variety can confirm.
The show’s first season, comprised of seven episodes, became one of the most-watched shows on Israeli platform Hot when it debuted earlier this year. Federation International, the distribution arm of Federation Studios, are launching global sales for Season 1 this week at Mipcom.
The show is the second co-pro from Shari Redstone’s Sipur Studios and The North Road Company, following their collaboration on Netflix hit “Bad Boy.” “Heart of a Killer” was created by Liad Shoham, Gal Zaid (“Valley of Tears”) and Roni Yaddor. It was made by production company Endemol Shine Israel and directed by Evgeny Ruman (“East Side”).
Sultan stars as Dr. Dasi Nakash in the series, a promising transplant surgeon who commits a desperate act to save a friend. Soon she is drawn into a “whirlwind of moral dilemmas, shadowy patient rescues and conflicts with the grim underworld of the medical establishment. With her resilience, determination and unwavering spirit, and with the aid of a handsome Dr. Adam Kessler, Dasi learns that making a difference often requires significant sacrifices.”
Exec producers are Amir Ganor for Endemol Shine, Amy Israel for North Road, Emilio Schenker and Gideon Tadmor for Sipur and Ori Gal, Dana Mendlinger and Mirit Toovi for Hot.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing ‘Heart of a Killer’ to the world,” said Federation International’s co-head of international sales, Monica Levy. “It’s a bold, high-stakes thriller with a remarkable lead, Niv Sultan, who you will recognize from ‘Tehran’ and its ongoing success on Hot shows just how powerfully it connects with audiences. We can’t wait to share it with buyers at Mipcom.”
Sipur CEO Emilio Schenker added: “After an incredible launch in Israel, where ‘Heart of a Killer’ became one of Hot’s most-watched series in recent years, we’re thrilled to bring this gripping story to new audiences around the world and begin work on its second season.”
