Ramayan actors Arun Govil and Dipika Chikhlia are reuniting after 39 years to star in the social drama film Notice, directed by Pradeep Gupta.

For anyone who grew up watching Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, Arun Govil and Dipika Chikhlia will always be Ram and Sita. Their on-screen pairing became a part of Indian television history, and now, 39 years after the show first aired in 1987, the two actors are coming together for a new film. This time, however, they have a very different story to tell.

The duo will star in Notice, a social drama directed by Pradeep Gupta. The film will premiere on the streaming platform Waves on November 6.

Notice tells the story of a man trying to save a 150-year-old shop that is under threat because of development. Arun Govil plays the man, who takes on a corrupt system to protect the shop. Dipika Chikhlia plays his wife, who stands by him as he fights for justice.

Speaking to Mid-Day, producer-actor Aditya Pratap Singh Raghuvanshi explained why he felt the Ramayan duo was perfect for the film. He believes the story will connect with people who have lost their homes or shops because of development.

“The story has a 150-year-old shop at its centre. All those who have lost their homes or shops due to development will identify with it. And who can tell this story better than Ram and Sita? Where there is a fight between truth and untruth, Ram and Sita’s jodi has to be there. You can call it a modern-day Ramayan."

The makers want Notice to reach as many people as possible, which is why they have chosen an OTT release. Raghuvanshi told Mid-Day that Waves’ subscriber base would help the film find a wider audience. He also pointed out that while cinema audiences today largely have an urban mindset, Arun and Dipika continue to enjoy a strong following among television viewers. The team hopes to reach people across the country through mobile streaming.

Apart from its premiere on Waves, Notice will also air on 36 satellite television channels.
