Rajinikanth praised Karthik Subbaraj's Tamil film Dorothy, calling it mindblowing and predicting awards for Sananth's performance.

Getting a compliment from Rajinikanth is special for any actor or filmmaker. For the team of Dorothy, the superstar had plenty of good things to say about their film. Director Karthik Subbaraj was clearly over the moon after meeting Rajinikanth and hearing his thoughts on the Tamil film.

Starring Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth, Dorothy released last month and has been doing well at the box office. The film also faced homophobic backlash for its LGBTQ+ themes, but that hasn’t stopped several people from the film industry from showing their support.

Karthik Subbaraj shared pictures from his meeting with Rajinikanth on X. Sananth and Rishikanth were also present. Sharing his excitement, the filmmaker revealed that the superstar spent an entire hour talking about the film and praising different aspects of it. Karthik wrote, “Thalaivaaaaa…. ‘Fantastic..Beautiful… Mindblowing’ !!

Thalaivar Loveeedd #Dorothy and spoke in detail for an hour appreciating every aspect of the film…. Can’t ask for more…. Will forever remember the conversation & him saying. “Intha Karthik Subbaraja thaan thedittu irunthen (This is the Karthik Subbaraj I was looking for)… Hat’s off" … Am flying. Love you Thalaiva."

Karthik has previously worked with Rajinikanth on Petta (2019), which also featured Sananth in a small role.

Sananth, who plays Subbu in Dorothy, also shared pictures from the meeting. The actor revealed that Rajinikanth was impressed with his performance and even predicted that he would win awards for the role. Sananth wrote, “Award confirm! Enna oru challenging ana role! Hats off! Sema Alaga iruntheenga! Petta la patha Anwar ah ithu (What a challenging role! You looked absolutely beautiful! Is this the same Anwar from Petta)?!

Rajinikanth wasn’t the only one from his family who enjoyed Dorothy. On Sunday, Soundarya Rajinikanth also praised the film and its message of acceptance. She wrote on X, “Dorothy has so much heart and soul. I was completely drawn into the world of these characters. The film is a beautiful reminder to accept everyone and treat everyone equally. As a producer, I’ve explored LGBTQ+ stories in Goa and #Love. I’ve always believed in respecting this community, and I will always stand with them. Congratulations, my friend @karthiksubbaraj on bringing this film together. @Sananth__, your performance is beyond brilliant. @iam_rishikanth many, many congratulations .. I’m so happy to see how this year has been for you. Love and congratulations to the entire cast and crew."

Set in the 1990s, Dorothy follows two men whose lives change after a woman enters the picture. The film stars Keerthy Suresh in a pivotal role, alongside Sananth and Rishikanth. Backed by Jio Studios and Sikhya Entertainment, the film features an original score by legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja. It is his 1,540th film. Dorothy had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) earlier this month, where it received a standing ovation.
