‘Bhai Tere Efforts Mein Aur Tere Kismat Mein Koi Sync Hi Nahi Hai Yaar’ – This epic dialogue from Prem Keetanu perfectly summarises the situation of Vishal’s character. The Veer Pahariya and Aafiya Sayed starrer Prem Keetanu is finally out in theatres today (October 2). Directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, the film is a Hindi remake of a superhit Malayalam film, Premalu. Prem Keetanu also features Aparshakti Khurana, Rakesh Bedi and Nikhil Vijay in supporting roles. It is a romantic comedy, which has laughter, emotions and romance. Let’s find out if the Veer Pahariya film is really worth the watch.
Prem Keetanu begins with Vishal (Veer Pahariya) and Suhani (Aafiya Sayed) bumping into each other during the college admission process. Suhani doesn’t want to enroll in the college, as she wishes to study at SIT College. Vishal and Suhani have an argument in the queue, as the latter unintentionally hugs the former after she gets a seat in SIT college. She curses Vishal that he won't get any girlfriend in the next four years. During his engineering years, Vishal tries hard to impress a girl to be his girlfriend, but nothing works out in his favour.
After four years, Suhani manages to get a job in Ranjeet (Aparshakti Khurana)’s firm in Gurgaon, while Vishal gets rejected by him for cheating in exams. Vishal moves to Delhi with his friend, Magan (Nikhil Vijay). He doesn’t get a job. Therefore, he decides to take the GRE exam in order to pursue further studies in the US. One fine day, he bumps into Suhani at her friend’s wedding. He falls in love with her and tries to win her heart. However, the biggest obstacle for him is Suhani’s team lead, Ranjit, who also loves her. Whom will Suhani choose as her life partner, or will she reject both of them? That’s what you will get to know by the end of Prem Keetanu.
Prem Keetanu has been directed by Apoorv Singh Karki. The filmmaker does a good job in the direction department. He manages to give full justice to the original film, Premalu, and adds his own twists to the narrative, especially in the second half. Deepak Kingrani’s story and screenplay is effective and engaging.
Especially, Prem Keetanu doesn’t bore you, all thanks to its fast-paced screenplay. In the second half, the film has some dull moments, but they don’t affect the watching experience. However, too many slow-motion shots in funny and dramatic scenes add nothing but extra minutes to film’s runtime. Prem Keetanu has a lot of similarities with Premalu, but some moments from the second half make the romantic comedy different than the Malayalam film.
Prem Keetanu cast shines in the performance department. Veer Pahariya looks convincing as Vishal. From his dialogue delivery to emotions in dramatic scenes, the actor has improved himself as a performer. He is not the best but is definitely good in the lead role. On the other hand, Aafiya Sayed as Suhani is fantastic. She has a strong screen presence. Her confrontation scenes with Veer and Aparshakti are highlights of the film. She looks beautiful and delivers her lines quite well.
Aparshakti Khurana as Ranjeet is amazing. His comic timing is just perfect. Rakesh Bedi shines in a brief role as Suhani’s father. He creates magic in the second half with his comic timing. However, the star of the film has to be Nikhil Vijay. He brings extra spark to Prem Keetanu. His one-liners and dark humour are too funny to miss. Nikhil takes film to next level with his fantastic comic timing. Veer and Nikhil’s chemistry is yet another highlight of the film.
