Mrunal Thakur defended Katrina Kaif and Kriti Sanon after they faced online trolling. Katrina got bullied for postpartum weight gain, while Kriti faced criticism over a festive advertisement. Mrunal said, "It's their life; it's their choice, and everyone has a right to enjoy their phase of their life."
Social media has become an important platform for people to present their thoughts – good, bad or ugly. Bollywood celebrities, especially women, are looked at through a critical lens. Recently, Katrina Kaif was bullied on the internet for her postpartum weight gain. Kriti Sanon, who featured in a jewellery brand’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement, was trolled for wearing an Indo-Western outfit in it. In a recent interaction with a media agency, Mrunal Thakur defended her colleagues and asked whether people have forgotten their contribution to the country.
In an interview with PTI, Mrunal reacted to celebrities facing public scrutiny over how they look and dress. Unhappy with those judging Katrina and Kriti, she said, "It's their life; it's their choice, and everyone has a right to enjoy their phase of their life. And who are we? People who are judging all these iconic women, do we forget how amazing work (they have done) and the contribution towards the industry and business both of these women?"
She added, "Be it Kriti and Katrina, they are running a business not just in India but everywhere in UK and all. I think people should not comment on anyone else. People are crazy; what else to say."
Mrunal further said that women always faced judgement, and even men are not spared either. "Women are always judged, and when are they not judged? But not just women; even men are judged," she said.
Katrina, who gave birth to her son Vihaan Kaushal in November 2025, was trolled for her weight gain. During an event for Kay Beauty in London, Katrina opened up about social media perceptions. She said, “I think we really need to be careful of letting narrative on social media affect our self-worth and value because there are so many opinions out there. If we’re going to start to cater to all of them, it really hampers your ability to make choices for yourself. Personally, for me, every time that I faced critics or comments, if I let that dictate my actions, I think I would have been paralysed with fear and unable to move ahead in my life.”
Kriti’s Raksha Bandhan ad was removed from social media after the internet called her outfit ‘inappropriate’ for a festival commercial. In the promo of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s What Women Want 6, Sanon said, “I couldn’t believe when my choli had become like a 6 people panel discussion on prime-time news.” Kareena appeared shocked upon hearing about it and said, “I know.”
