Marvel announces Zodiac, a new live-action spy thriller coming to Disney+ in 2028

Marvel has announced Zodiac, a new live-action spy thriller series planned to air on Disney+ in 2028. The title was unveiled during Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum's New York Comic Con panel on October 8. This is the first new live-action TV project announced for the brand since Ironheart. Production is slated to begin in London in spring 2027, with casting expected to kick off in weeks. Marvel has been tight-lipped about the storyline and actors, but the first-look logo is said to include clues for comic-book enthusiasts, opening the door to conjecture about the mysterious project and how it fits into the larger MCU.

What is Zodiac?

Marvel Television and Marvel Animation's New York Comic Con panel confirmed Zodiac will be a spy thriller, with Winderbaum calling it a new global espionage series. "For anyone who knows the comics, if you look closely at this title design, you'll see a few clues about where we're going," he informed the crowd, suggesting insights embedded in the newly disclosed logo.

Winderbaum also announced that the production will take place in London in spring 2027, with casting expected to start in the coming weeks. But Marvel has not said who the actors will be, the director, the writers, or what the story will be.

Fans who know their Marvel Comics have speculated on the title, where Zodiac is a villainous organisation, and there are individuals with the name. The logo could give clues as to what the show will look like, but Marvel has not said which comic-book characters or themes would be used in the adaptation.

Zodia in Marvel Comics

In Marvel Comics, the Zodiac, or Zodiac Cartel, is a criminal organisation founded by Cornelius Van Lunt to achieve world domination. Its members represent the 12 zodiac signs and use specialised technology to gain unique powers. Notable members include Leo, whose battlesuit features deadly claws and teeth; Aquarius, who uses water-based weapons; and Gemini, who can harness his twin brother's strength. The group has frequently battled the Avengers and attempted to assassinate Nick Fury. Its member Scorpio is revealed to be Fury's brother. The Zodiac also seeks the powerful Zodiac Key, capable of transmuting matter.

Zodiac joins Marvel's expanding live-action TV lineup

The news comes as Marvel's live-action television slate is in transition. Zodiac is the first new live-action series announced since Ironheart, giving us a new project as some of the established shows are coming to an end. The Yahya Abdul-Mateen II-led Wonder Man won critical accolades and an Emmy nod for its leading man. However, plans for a second season were later shelved despite the news of its renewal. Meanwhile, Daredevil: Born Again will end with its third season, due in 2027.

The new season will likely bring back several characters from Netflix's now defunct Marvel shows, including Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Finn Jones as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist.

VisionQuest to finish the WandaVision trilogy

Meanwhile, Marvel fans have VisionQuest to look forward to before Zodiac debuts. The series is set to premiere on October 14, 2026, wrapping up the TV trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along.

Paul Bettany is back as the android Vision, who was last seen in WandaVision, as he searches for himself and for memories of his past. The new series will follow more of his adventure, with familiar artificial intelligence characters like Ultron, J.A.R.V.I.S. and F.R.I.D.A.Y. also in the mix.

VisionQuest might cap off one chapter of the recent Marvel Television narrative, but Zodiac might open up another in a different genre with a fresh cast of characters.
