Rajinikanth shared that Mithun Chakraborty had one condition before joining the cast of Jailer 2. The veteran actor told Rajinikanth, “You should neither beat me up nor shoot me.” Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film brings the two stars together again after they worked in Bhrashtachar back in 1989.
Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Jailer 2 is creating buzz among fans, with the makers dropping a promotional interview that has added to the excitement surrounding the sequel. During the interview, Rajinikanth shared interesting anecdotes about the film’s cast. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the action entertainer brings together several big names from Indian cinema, including veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, who returns to Tamil cinema after several years. Rajinikanth also spoke about his bond with Mithun Chakraborty and shared an interesting conversation they had before the Bollywood star agreed to join the much-awaited film.
Speaking at the Jailer 2 Super Show, Rajinikanth spoke about how Mithun Chakraborty reacted when the film's production team approached him. Mithun Chakraborty wanted to know what role he would be playing and whether he would have to take beatings from Rajinikanth's character. “He is a very good friend of mine. When the production team approached him, he asked what role he would be playing. ‘Am I the villain? Should I take beatings from Rajinikanth? Get lost,’ he said,” Rajinikanth said.
Rajinikanth revealed that he met Mithun Chakraborty at an edition of the WAVES Summit, where they discussed the film. During their conversation, Mithun Chakraborty agreed to take up the role but had one request.
“Later, during an edition of the WAVES Summit, I met him. When the conversation reached this topic, he told me, ‘If you say, I will do it.’ But he had one condition: ‘You should neither beat me up nor shoot me.’ I said, ‘Let me ask the director and get back.’ But I was sure he was just saying it (for the sake of it),” Rajinikanth added.
Mithun Chakraborty made his Tamil debut with Yagavarayinum Naa Kaakka (2015), but has not appeared in another Tamil film since. His return also brings him back together with Rajinikanth, with whom he previously worked in Ramesh Sippy's Bhrashtachar (1989). Rajinikanth also made a special appearance in the Bengali film Bhagya Debata (1995), headlined by Mithun Chakraborty and Rituparna Sengupta.
