Mammootty's debut film, Devalokam, got shelved, but MT Vasudevan Nair saved his career. Nair penned Vilkkanundu Swapnangal (1980), Mammootty's first credited role. Mammootty said, "I began craving it and struggling, trying and dreaming." He has since starred in over 400 films.
