Written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Dorothy received a standing ovation after its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last month. Starring Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth, it released in Indian theatres on 25 September 2026. While audiences have been slow to show their love for the film, Suriya is following the footsteps of Dhanush in singing his praises for Dorothy. The actor took to social media to laud the cast and crew on their 'daring' film while also singling out the music of the legendary Ilaiyaraaja. Here's what he said.

On X (formerly Twitter), Suriya wrote in Tamil, "Dorothy speaks about things, which is not spoken about often, and it does so in a daring way. What ever Karthik Subbaraj wanted to say, he has conveyed through the film. The performances of Keerthy, Sanath, and Rishikanth breathe life into the film. Isaignani's music is deeply moving. My heartfelt congratulations to the entire film crew!"
A grateful Karthik also responded to Suriya's tweet amongst the homophobic trolling of the film. He said in gratitude, "The One for #Dorothy Thank you @Suriya_offl sir... Your appreciation means a lot. #DorothyWinsHearts." The filmmaker's latest revolves around the friendship of Karthi (Rishikanth) and Subbu (Sanath) amid themes of caste, violence, and toxic masculinity. The entrance of Dorothy, played by National Film Award Keerthy Suresh, turns their world upside down.
Dhanush and Suriya Laud Karthik Subbaraj's Dorothy
Dhanush was the first to support Dorothy before the release of the Tamil film. Calling the film a masterpiece by Karthik, he said in his review, "Bold and poignant. Raw and intense. Every actor has performed brilliantly. Our maestro ilayaraja sir’s background score will blow your mind away. Rudhrathandavam from isaignani. Best wishes to my dear friend Karthick subbaraj and the entire team on the release Tom. God bless."
Dorothy's Telugu release
A week after its Tamil release, Dorothy will premiere with its Telugu version on October 2. Distributed by Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media, a special trailer for the Telugu version was launched on September 30. Dorothy is co-produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain.
At the launch, the Baahubali star revealed why he wanted to back its Telugu release, "The film beautifully addresses certain topics that we don't usually discuss openly; that is why I stepped forward to release it. It is a very important film that helps us understand our society."
