Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi hit back at Rahul Gandhi on Saturday after the Congress leader called the Prime Minister "Mogambo Modi" in Chennai. Joshi said, "Resorting to Bollywood tropes and schoolyard name-calling doesn’t make you look smart." He accused Gandhi of using cheap rhetoric to hide his political failures.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi on Saturday trained guns at the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, over the latter’s “Mogambo" remarks at the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj‘ event in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

In the latest edition of the Congress’ student-outreach programme, Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, stating, “Mogambo Modi is destroying India’s democracy".

Gandhi questioned the massive police crackdown on Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters in Delhi on Saturday that resulted in thousands of detentions and internet shutdown in parts of the capital.

Writing on X, Joshi wrote: “It seems like you still haven’t figured out how a mature democracy works. You praise our institutions when you win states, but cry ‘Mogambo’ and ‘vote chori’ the moment India rejects you nationally."

“This childish ‘heads I win, tails you cheated’ routine is exhausting. Resorting to Bollywood tropes and schoolyard name-calling doesn’t make you look smart, it just exposes your absolute lack of any real policy alternatives", he said.

Joshi accused Gandhi of “insulting the intellect of hundreds of millions of voters who chose this mandate".

“Grow up. Stop relying on cheap, clickbait rhetoric to hide your political failures. India deserves a serious opposition, not a constant meme performance", he said.

What Gandhi Said At Chennai Event

Drawing references from the 1987 Bollywood sci-fi action movie Mr. India, Rahul Gandhi launched an attack on the Prime Minister, describing him as “Mogambo Modi".

“The entire city (New Delhi) was shut down. Internet was shut down. Police was beating students. The BJP released their own ‘Bhakts’, their own ‘Gundas’, who were beating and thrashing students", he said.

“The problem is that Mr. Modi doesn’t understand that the game is over. The drama he has been doing in this country for the last 15 years is coming to an end", added the Congress leader.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)’s call for an agitation over the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise saw a massive police clampdown on Saturday, with thousands of protesters detained and metro services suspended in parts of the city.

The CJP as well as the opposition INDIA bloc have been demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over the SIR controversy.
