Actor Suresh Krishna, famous for his haunting 2000 debut in Pottu Amman, is winning hearts again in 2026. After his role in Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, fans now love his relatable social media presence. He once almost joined a Mani Ratnam film, but he said, "I had no regrets about the opportunity."
f you spent the early 2000s watching Tamil or Telugu films on television, chances are Suresh Krishna’s look in Pottu Amman gave you nightmares. The actor played Prathmipadhi/Mandhiravadi, an Aghori-like villain in the 2000 Tamil-Telugu bilingual film, released as Durga in Telugu. With his long hair, fierce appearance and intense performance, Suresh Krishna became one of the most frightening faces for an entire generation of viewers. Fast forward to 2026, and the actor is back in the spotlight, but this time for a very different reason. Following Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, the once-feared villain has become a fan-favourite, with his boomer behaviour and recreation of a scene from Mohanlal’s Thudarum winning him plenty of love from fans.
While Pottu Amman remains Suresh Krishna’s only Tamil film, the actor later came close to becoming part of a Mani Ratnam project. His performance in Kutty Srank, in which he appeared alongside Mammootty, caught the filmmaker’s attention. In an interview with Cinema Vikatan, Suresh Krishna recalled being invited to Mani Ratnam’s office in Chennai while the director was looking for an actor for Kadal. He said Mani Ratnam could not identity him as the same actor from Kutty Srank. He was so impressed that he considered him for a role that was expected to involve three different get-ups. However, the role eventually did not materialise. Suresh Krishna said he had no regrets about the opportunity not working out.
