Vijay Sethupathi’s film Baththa earned Rs 11.35 crore by its fifth day at the box office. The movie started with Rs 1.50 crore on October 1 but soon got positive word of mouth. It beat other releases like Sigma and Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai to lead the holiday weekend race.

The Gandhi Jayanthi holiday weekend brought a three-way clash to the Tamil box office, with Baththa, Sigma and Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai competing. While Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma opened amid much hype, Vijay Sethupathi’s Baththa, which released a day earlier, latter gained momentum over the following days and emerged as a better performer of the three. The Balaji Tharaneetharan directorial, which opened to a modest Rs 1.50 crore, got positive word of mouth and earned its best collection on Sunday.

Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Baththa had a modest beginning at the box office, collecting Rs 1.50 crore net in India on October 1. However, the film showed growth over the next few days, helped by favourable reviews and positive word of mouth.

The film earned Rs 2.70 crore on Day 2, followed by Rs 2.75 crore on Day 3. Sunday proved to be its strongest day so far, with Baththa collecting Rs 3.10 crore from 1,290 shows in India. According to Sacnilk, the film added another Rs 1.30 crore net on Monday, October 5, from 1,214 shows. With around 25 percent occupancy recorded on the day, its five-day India net collection has reached an estimated Rs 11.35 crore. The India gross collection stands at around Rs 13.18 crore.

Baththa has managed to maintain its lead over the other Gandhi Jayanthi releases. Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, the film stars Vijay Sethupathi, Sai Prithvi and Lijomol Jose in the lead, with Ajay Ghosh, Arjun Chidambaram, Sahasra and Hari Krishnan in supporting roles.

Jason Sanjay’s Sigma had the advantage on opening day, with the curiosity surrounding Vijay’s son’s directorial debut helping the film register Rs 2.35 crore net in India. However, collections dropped to Rs 1.50 crore on Day 2 before remaining relatively less on Day 3 and Day 4.

Meanwhile, Nivin Pauly and Soori-starrer Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai has struggled at the box office, with its opening weekend collection remaining below Rs 1 crore. Directed by Ram, the film follows the tale of an immortal man. It also stars Anjali also stars in the film, with music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
