What is the RBI MPC?
The Monetary Policy Committee is a six-member panel under the RBI Act that sets the policy repo rate. Its job is to keep inflation at 4 per cent, within a band of 2–6 per cent. Decisions are by majority. The Governor has a casting vote if there is a tie.

In August 2026, the MPC left the repo rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent and kept a neutral stance. The vote was unanimous. The standing deposit facility rate stayed at 5 per cent, and the marginal standing facility rate and bank rate at 5.50 per cent.
