KawiSafi Ventures invested $2 million in Orb Energy to expand its solar business across East Africa. Published on October 1, 2026, the funding supports commercial and industrial projects in Kenya. Orb Energy said the capital will help move projects from development into construction, boosting its clean energy work in the region.
Bengaluru-headquartered Orb Energy has received investments of $ 2 million from KawiSafi Ventures, to support the expansion of its commercial and industrial (C&I) solar business in East Africa.
The capital is ring-fenced for Orb Energy's Africa business and will support its growing project pipeline in Kenya and the wider region.
The investment, made through KawiSafi Ventures' second fund, will help move projects from development and contracting into construction and commissioning.
Founded in 2006, Orb Energy is a vertically integrated solar company with operations in India and Kenya. It manufactures solar panels at its Bengaluru facility and has its Africa headquarters in Nairobi.
The company provides solar systems and financing solutions to C&I customers in sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, healthcare and hospitality. Customers can buy systems outright or opt for financing structures that reduce the upfront capital required.
Orb Energy has installed close to 15 MW of rooftop solar for more than 60 C&I customers in East Africa.
KawiSafi's second fund builds on the experience of its predecessor, a $67-million clean energy fund launched in 2016. Its investment strategy now spans Africa's climate economy, including the energy transition, clean transportation and green productivity.
