ITR filings cross 78 million for AY27, setting new record

More than 78 million income-tax returns had been filed for assessment year 2026-27 as of 31 August, the income tax department said on Tuesday. This record milestone showed sustained growth in filings. The department thanked taxpayers and professionals for timely compliance, as many first-time filers also joined the tax system.
