HCLTech is betting on artificial intelligence (AI) built for specific business tasks, from processing invoices to handling drug safety reports, to incentivise companies deploy the technology more widely.

On October 8, the IT company announced a portfolio of 20 Industry AI Solutions across banking, healthcare and life sciences, aerospace, retail, telecom, mobility, energy and manufacturing. HCLTech said many of these tools were already operating at scale for clients globally, while others remained in early deployments.

HCLTech will announce its Q2FY27 results on October 12.

“AI has a potential to transform the very heart of business value chains but realising that potential requires deep domain specificity and the ability to scale,”said Gaurav Dhakar, global head of Industry AI Solutions, HCLTech.

For HCLTech, this means building tools around the requirements of particular industries and business functions. The company said a global team of engineers and domain experts developed the portfolio in-house as part of a strategy to build its own AI intellectual property.

“Our Industry AI solutions bridge this gap by translating domain expertise into scalable AI intelligence,” Dhakar said.

The company said a large global manufacturer of motorbikes and tools is using its Autonomous Accounts Payable platform to manage invoices. It said the tool cut invoice processing time by 60%, but did not name the client.

In manufacturing and logistics, the firm said its VisionX platform improved response time by over 90% and reduced operating costs by 70% across factories and warehouses. VisionX uses computer vision, a form of AI that interprets images and other visual information.

HCLTech also said its SmartTwin system allows manufacturers to simulate products and plants before physical deployment. It claimed the system improved the go-to-market time by 44%, extending the portfolio's focus from daily operations to product development.

Meanwhile, in healthcare and life sciences, the company is targeting regulatory work and drug safety reporting. Its Intelligent Regulatory Platform provides regulatory intelligence, while its Intelligent Safety Platform reduced pharmacovigilance case-processing time by 40-50%, the company claimed.

Pharmacovigilance involves monitoring and assessing possible adverse effects of medicines.
