Chennai: The government is working on strategies to "re-power" around 25 GW of old wind energy projects in the country, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Thursday.

The minister for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) made these remarks at the 8th Windergy India 2026 conference.

"These projects are nearing the end of their life. Parts are getting old, so we are working to re-power them," Joshi said.

There would be around 25 GW of such wind capacities, the minister said, without sharing any further details, including location.

Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh are the leading states in installed wind capacities.

Joshi said India has an operational wind capacity of around 59 GW and the country is on the track to achieve the

100 GW wind target by 2030.

In FY26, India added 6.05 GW of wind capacity, and the addition this fiscal year will be higher.

From April to September, 3 GW was added.
