CA Nitin Kaushik has outlined seven stages of financial growth, explaining why earning Rs 2 lakh a month may not guarantee financial security. The journey begins with survival and stability, progresses through security and independence, and eventually leads to freedom, abundance and legacy. From building an emergency fund to generating income through investments and planning generational wealth, each stage offers greater financial control and independence.
Building wealth does not happen overnight. It takes years of patience to earn more, save consistently and invest smartly. However, financial success does not automatically mean a growing salary or big bank balance. It determines how comfortably can a person handle a financial emergency without draining their savings, make career decisions and future plans. CA Nitin Kaushik, recently took to X and outlines 7 stages of financial growth. He explained why a monthly income of Rs 2 lakh may not gurantee financial security and how more money can eventually give one greater control over their decisions and time.
CA Nitin Kaushik explains 7 stages of financial growthTaking to X, CA Nitin Kaushik shared that financial growth is not simply about earning more. According to him, the real journey involves moving from financial survival to controlling money and eventually gaining the freedom to decide how to spend one's time.
SurvivalAt this stage, most income goes towards rent, food, bills and EMIs. An unexpected Rs 20,000 expense can disrupt the entire month. Kaushik suggests that income should cover basic needs instead of using credit to pay for essential expenses.
StabilityHow do you know you have achieved stability? Bills are paid on time. Routine expenses does not stress anyone out and does not require you to borrow. You are saving some money every month. CA advises to build an initial Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh emergency buffer to manage any unexpected expenses.
Security
Financial security is achieved when a person is able to save up to 6 months of essential expenses in savings or liquid cash. This financial cushion helps in case of a sudden lay off or job loss, medical treatments or unexpected expenses, without requiring you to fall into debt.
Independence
Financial independence means when you do not completely depend just on your salary for financial support. Instead, your investments and assets start generating money. This is the stage where people move from, 'I work for money' to 'money works for me'.
Freedom
Assets can now cover most, or eventually all, lifestyle expenses. This allows individuals to reject unsuitable jobs, take career breaks or work fewer hours. Kaushik believes the biggest luxury is not a bigger house or better car, but "control over your time."
AbundanceFinancial abundance is the stage where you are thinking beyond your lifestyle and requirements. Now, your focus is more on protecting, growing and allocating existing assets. Philanthropical acts, supporting your family, investing into business and preserving your wealth takes priority.
LegacyThe seventh stage of financial growth is
creating a legacy. This is beyond personal financial security. Make a clear will with updated nominations and succession plan. This helps to ensure that businesses, assets and other investments can support your family members or the future generations.
