The hike is the company's second fuel price revision this year, while commercial LPG and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices have also increased.
Private fuel retailer Nayara Energy has increased petrol prices by Rs 5 per litre and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre across its network from Saturday, October 3. The hike comes as rising international crude oil and refined fuel prices put pressure on retail margins, according to industry sources.
The revised rates will apply at Nayara's more than 7,000 fuel stations across the country. The company has raised prices to reduce the gap between its retail rates and the higher cost of procuring fuel from international markets.
Second Fuel Price Revision This Year
This is Nayara Energy's second petrol and diesel price revision of the year. In March, the company had increased both prices by similar amounts following supply disruptions caused by tensions in West Asia. The hike was later withdrawn in July after international crude prices declined.
The latest increase comes even as state-owned oil companies have largely kept petrol and diesel prices unchanged. These companies operate more than 90 per cent of India's over 104,000 petrol pumps.
Earlier this week, the government also directed private fuel retailers not to restrict the sale of petrol and diesel at their outlets. The direction came amid concerns over supply and sales limits at some private fuel stations.
LPG, ATF Prices Also Rise
Meanwhile, state-owned oil marketing companies increased the price of commercial LPG by Rs 62.50 per 19-kg cylinder from October. The price of domestic LPG, however, remains unchanged at Rs 942 per cylinder.
Commercial LPG prices had already risen by Rs 9.50 in September after being reduced by Rs 192 in August and Rs 183.50 in July. Between February and June, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder had increased by Rs 1,373, from Rs 1,740.50 to Rs 3,113.50, before declining in July and August.
Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices have also increased by Rs 16 per litre, taking the rate for domestic airlines from Rs 121 to Rs 137 per litre. This follows an increase of Rs 6.28 per litre, or 5.46 per cent, in September and Rs 5 per litre in August.
