The US Coast Guard on Saturday launched a search for a Gulfstream aircraft carrying six people after losing contact with the plane while it was travelling from Bermuda to Boston. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported losing contact with the aircraft early Saturday morning, following which the Coast Guard deployed air and surface crews to search for the plane. "US Coast Guard is searching for a Gulfstream aircraft with 6 persons on board. Federal Aviation Administration reported losing contact w/the aircraft early Saturday morning. USCG air & surface crews have launched in search of the aircraft. Updates will be provided here as info becomes available," the Coast Guard said in a post on X. In a subsequent update, the agency said the aircraft was travelling from Bermuda to Boston and that the search was focused off the coast of Nantucket. "#UPDATE : the plane was traveling from Bermuda to Boston. Current search area is off the coast of Nantucket. Aircraft is a Gulfstream G100 (Tail #CGRJP)," it said. Aircraft disappears from radar The aircraft has been identified as a Gulfstream G100, a twin-engine, mid-size jet. Flight-tracking information showed the plane had departed Bermuda International Airport late Friday night and was headed towards Boston. Available tracking data indicated that the aircraft experienced a significant drop in altitude shortly before contact was lost. However, authorities have not confirmed that the aircraft crashed, and the circumstances surrounding the loss of contact remain unclear. The identities and condition of the six people on board have not been released. Search operation underway The Coast Guard has concentrated its search south of Nantucket, an island off the Massachusetts coast, using both aircraft and surface vessels. The aircraft appears to have been operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, a medical aviation company based in Hamilton, Ontario. Flight-tracking information identified the aircraft as operating the Bermuda-Boston route under the callsign HTT104. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the aircraft was carrying a patient, medical personnel or other passengers. The search remains focused on locating the aircraft and determining what happened after contact was lost. The Coast Guard said further updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
