Global warming may leave Kosi basin with less water despite more rainfall: IIT-R study

A new IIT-Roorkee study warns that Uttarakhand’s Kosi basin may face water shortages despite more rainfall. Rising temperatures will cause faster evaporation and reduce groundwater recharge by over 20%. Prof Kamal Kishore Pant said, “Studies such as this provide vital scientific insights for developing evidence-based policies and adaptation strategies.”
