Meet the astronomer digging into the Milky Way's 'fossils'

Amina Helmi won the Kavli Prize for studying the Milky Way’s violent history. The 55-year-old astronomer uses stars as cosmic fossils to map our galaxy. She said, "This works as a kind of DNA of a star." Her research showed that the Milky Way grew through many crashes with other galaxies.
