First 3D map reveals hidden thermal structure of nearby interstellar medium

Astronomers built the first 3D map of gas temperature around our solar system, submitted to arXiv on July 16. Led by Jonathan Shelest, the team used a tool called 𝒫3D to show a messy, dynamic structure. It revealed cold clouds wrapped in unstable gas, floating within warm interstellar material.
