Time to raise the legal shield for protestors

Citizens have a constitutional right to protest peacefully in India. The State often uses force like barricades and batons to stop dissent. However, the Supreme Court said in the 2012 Ramlila Maidan protests that police crackdowns are an "abuse of power" and must always satisfy tests of necessity and proportionality.
