Lok Sabha Clears Bill Criminalising Insult to Vande Mataram

Lok Sabha passed The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026 on Thursday. The law gives Vande Mataram status equal to the national anthem. Minister Nityananda Rai said, "This Bill is for national honour." Opposition members protested the move, claiming it forces a specific agenda on the country.
