Ex-Army Chief Gen V N Sharma, who stood firm during 1987 Wangdung standoff, dies at 96

General Vishwa Nath Sharma, the 15th Chief of Army Staff, died on Friday in New Delhi at 96. He famously refused to withdraw forces during the 1987 Wangdung standoff. He said, "I straightaway gave the orders, 'no withdrawal'." The veteran will be cremated on Saturday at 10.30 am.
