Why Hindalco wants to build a nuclear reactor

Hindalco is the only company that submitted a proposal to build a 220 MW Bharat Small Reactor after the process closed on 31 March 2026. NPCIL invited large industrial users to co-develop these reactors for captive power. Hindalco now plans to secure reliable, low-carbon electricity for its energy-intensive metal factories.
