India's first education minister never went to school, built IITs, UGC

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad served as India’s first education minister from August 1947 until February 1958. Though he never attended a formal school, he built the IITs and the UGC. "My father was a man who believed in the old ways of life," he said, explaining his unique home-based early education.
