India’s cooperative banking sector includes 1,843 banks serving over 22 crore accounts across the country. These institutions hold deposits of ₹13 lakh crore and support many farmers. While they built deep community trust, the sector now faces structural and technological challenges that the Ministry of Cooperation started addressing after 2021.
