River otters are 'terrorizing' Point Reyes pelicans—and the birds are finally learning to run for their lives.

California researchers surveyed Point Reyes lagoon 19 times and found 73 pelicans killed by river otters. The team walked the shore from June to November 2023 to track these attacks. Recent observations showed that some birds have now begun flying away when otters approach, helping them avoid this unusual danger.
