Over 5 crore ITRs filed for AY 2026-27 as July 31 deadline approaches

More than 5 crore income tax returns got filed for the 2026-27 assessment year, the income tax department said on Wednesday. With the July 31 deadline approaching, officials asked taxpayers to use ITR-1 and ITR-2 forms. Many small and medium taxpayers already finished their filings before the final date arrived.
