Sponge parks put on hold as GCC shifts focus to restoring lakes

The Greater Chennai Corporation shifted its focus from building sponge parks to restoring existing lakes. Mayor R. Priya said, "Instead of sponge parks, we have taken up restoration of many lakes." Officials noted that clayey soil limits the effectiveness of artificial parks, so they now prefer strengthening natural waterbody bunds.
