Hurdles to innovation

India climbed from 81st to 38th in the Global Innovation Index over the past decade. While patent filings rose to 68,176 in 2024-25, research funding remains stuck at 0.64 percent of GDP. Researchers said, "administrative delays can consume well over two years" of a five-year project, hindering real scientific progress.
